However, while the first two were admittedly very GTA-like, subsequent entries purposely deviated. The developers focused more on over-the-top gameplay, popular culture references, and parodic humor that’s not above making fun of itself. While the Saints Row series has become one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time, Volition hasn’t released a new full entry since 2013’s Saints Row IV. With that said, there’ve been rumors going around in recent years that a new Saints Row game is in development. The most recent information even suggests that Volition is going to announce the new Saints Row game at Gamescom 2021 in late August.
Is a new Saints Row game going to be announced soon?
Credible industry insider, Okami, was the first to break the news of a new Saints Row game. The popular Call of Duty leaker took to Twitter to claim that he’s heard through the grapevine that a Saints Row reboot is coming. When probed by fans on when he thinks the announcement is going to happen, he hints at Gamescom 2021.
— Country ᵛᴸ (@CountryManGames) August 16, 2021 Hardcore fans of the franchise know that Volition’s been working on a new Saints Row game for years. Koch Media CEO Klements Kundraditz promised that the game is coming and that the studio would reveal more information in 2020 back in 2019. It’s been two years since that promise and no one’s heard anything from Volition or Koch Media about a new Saints Row game. With that said, because this is all unofficial information, we recommend taking everything with a grain of salt. As we’ve already mentioned previously, this isn’t the first time that rumors of a new Saints Row game have popped up. If nothing comes of it, you best expect another one to sprout soon enough. However, we’re definitely hoping that Okami has this right. With the release of GTA 6 still many years away, fans will be looking for other games to play in the meantime. A new Saints Row game would definitely fit the bill.
