For something that has topped headlines several times these past few months, we haven’t gotten a proper look at Black Adam since DC FanDome 2021. With Johnson’s DCEU debut coming up in a few months, fans have been begging for a more extensive trailer. If we’re lucky, audiences are going to get more of Black Adam soon. As confirmed by Johnson on Twitter, he’ll make a pregame appearance on Super Bowl Sunday. Of course, being a celebrity and as big as he is, Johnson could be there simply for the festivities. But, his description of an “ELECTRIFYING” appearance alongside a lighting bolt emoji is a telling sign.

This will historic. This will be my honor. This will be ELECTRIFYING⚡️🔥 I’ll see you THIS SUNDAY! LFG!!! #SuperBowlLVI #SuperGoldSunday 2/13 on @NBC pic.twitter.com/xPsjB1WmdX — Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) February 7, 2022 If the second-ever Black Adam trailer premieres at Super Bowl LVI, it will mark the first time that the DCEU will drop an official trailer at any Super Bowl. The closest thing that the DCEU has had to an official trailer at a Super Bowl was a Gal Gadot-led Tide ad, which was a tease for Wonder Woman 1984. Some believe that Warner Bros. thinks that a 30-second Super Bowl ad is far too expensive, especially as it costs upwards of $6.5 million. But, with a big star like Johnson in tow, WB must have thought that it might as well splurge since Johnson is a guaranteed box office draw, no matter what. Unlike the Marvel Cinematic Universe, whose “worst” films during the pandemic era at the global box office still pulled in more than their production budgets, the same can’t be said for the DCEU. 2020’s Birds of Prey, which premiered just as the COVID-19 pandemic was shutting down theaters, only made $201.9 billion against a $100 million budget. Meanwhile, the Gal Gadot-led Wonder Woman sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, pulled in $166.5 million despite a $200 million production budget. Finally, James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad wasn’t any better. Despite rave reviews, The Suicide Squad failed to recoup the $185 million it cost WB to make. Having said that, only time will tell if Black Adam will indeed appear at Super Bowl Sunday, and more importantly, if Black Adam will curb recent DCEU trends.
