Then again, this good faith might have been due to CDPR’s reputation as one of the “good guys” in the video game industry. The Polish video game developers made a name for themselves with The Witcher games, which they famously did not use anti-piracy software due to their anti-DRM stance. Unfortunately, despite having had years to work on the game, Cyberpunk 2077 was a mess at launch. There’s no other way to describe just how badly the game bombed when it was released in late 2020. Even PCs with the best graphics cards struggled to run it and when it did run, it was riddled with bugs and problems that continue to plague it until today. So, you’d think that a little less than a year later, CDPR has given up on Cyberpunk 2077, but you’d be wrong.
When can we expect the Cyberpunk 2077 DLC to release?
All of the plans that CDPR had for Cyberpunk 2077 went out of the window when the game was removed from the PlayStation Store, amongst other sanctions. Sony’s refusal to sell digital copies of Cyberpunk 2077 meant that CDPR would have to spend months to make sure that the game was viable enough for Sony to relist it. This meant that all the talks about the multiplayer component and original DLC for the game were as good as dead until Cyberpunk 2077 was fixed in the eyes of Sony. True enough, it has barely been a month since Sony relisted Cyberpunk 2077, and controversy regarding Cyberpunk 2077 has resurfaced. On Reddit, u/Saint-Pirate claims that this new Cyberpunk 2077 DLC leak is not the same as the one that CDPR has denied after reportedly appearing on the Epic Games Store a few months back. For what it’s worth, the content does check out with CDPR’s usual MO. After the release of The Witcher 3 back in 2015, CDPR went ahead and released more than a dozen pieces of free DLC content for the game. Granted, these weren’t exactly huge like Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, but the fact that the leak appears similar to what CDPR had previously done suggests that this is legitimate. Speaking of The Witcher games, CDPR just announced that it is going to release more content for the 2015 title that is based on the widely popular TV show on Netflix. As for what the free Cyberpunk 2077 DLC could be, don’t expect anything major outside of new cosmetics, weapons, and weapon packs, as well as a New Game Plus, among others. However, the aforementioned leak still mentioned that more content is coming to Cyberpunk 2077, so maybe the earlier planned expansions are still coming? In any case, it’s a long run ahead for CDPR and Cyberpunk 2077.
